
Flashes Travel to Troy, Alabama for Final MAC-SBC Contest

Troy, Alabama – The Kent State Men's basketball team (12-11, 5-6 MAC) is back on the road for their final game of the MAC-SBC Challenge against Troy University (16-8, 10-2 Sun Belt). The two teams will meet inside the Trojan Arena on Saturday, Feb. 10. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and will air on ESPN+. The MAC-SBC Challenge is a scheduling alliance in the sports of men's and women's basketball. The first set of games was played during the opening week of the 2023-24 season in November with 12 Sun Belt Conference (SBC) men's basketball programs traveling to compete against the 12 Mid-American Conference (MAC) teams and the 12 MAC women's basketball teams visiting 12 SBC programs. The second MAC-SBC Challenge contest was based on real-time NET rankings.Â
Last time out
The Kent State men's basketball team went 1-1 last week with a win on the road against Buffalo and at home against Western Michigan. The Flashes defeated the Broncos by one possession (63-61). VonCameron Davis helped the Flashes seal their victory with a game-high 19 points. In the Flashes' first MAC-SBC game, the Flashes took on James Madison inside the M.A.C. Center. The Flashes were defeated 113-108 in a thrilling double OT. Chris Payton Jr. recorded his first double-double of the season against JMU with a career-high 25 points and 17 rebounds. Giovanni Santiago also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 assists. Scoring leader Jalen Sullinger recorded a career-high 30 points.Â
Key Players for Troy
The Trojans are 16-8 overall and 10-2 in the SunBelt Conference. The Trojans defeated the Ohio Bobcats in their first MAC-SBC game 70-88 earlier this season. Troy is now tied for the top spot in the Sun Belt standings after App State fell at Texas State on Wednesday night. The Trojans hold the tiebreaker due to its win over the Mountaineers on Jan. 6 at home. The Trojans are on a five-game winning streak with their most recent victory over Marshall 82-66. Inside the Trojan Arena, they are 13-1 with a current 11-game winning streak at home.Â

This is the first time in program history that the two teams will meet.Â
