Flashes Pound Penguins with Offensive Avalanche

KENT- Every Golden Flash that took an at-bat reached base on Tuesday and six pitchers combined for a four-hit shutout in a 27-0 blanking of Youngstown State on Tuesday.
It is the largest shutout win for the Flashes since 2014 when they defeated Akron, 19-0 and the most runs scored in a game since scoring 31 against Bowling Green in 2012.
The Flashes banged out 24 hits by 14 different players, 13 of the hits went for extra bases. Highlighting the day was Kolton Schaller's 4-4 day at the plate, finishing a triple away from the cycle. Hunter Klotz pinch hit for Schaller later in the game and parked two homers as part of a nine-run sixth. He's the first Golden Flash to hit two homers in an inning since Jess Bechard hit two against NIU on March 28, 1998. The big blow came from Hunter Havekost who came off the bench to hit a grand slam for the Flashes, his first homer at Kent State.
Kent State scored in each of their six at-bats including four or more in each of the final four innings. Six pitchers combined on the first shutout of the season, led by Rocco Bernadina who went the first three innings. The righty walked the first batter he faced, then only allowed one hit the rest of the way while striking out four.
The home stand wraps with a perfect 5-0 record as the Kent State regular-season home win streak extends to 19 straight. The Flashes hit the road this weekend, traveling to Athens to face the Ohio University Bobcats in the first road MAC series of the year. First pitch on Friday is set for 4 p.m. from Bob Wren Stadium.
