KENT- The Golden Flashes head back on the road this weekend, starting a four-game road trip in Athens to take on the 5-9 Ohio University Bobcats in a three-game series.
Kent State is coming off a 5-0 home stand that ended with the Flashes scoring 44 runs in the last 14 innings, a pair of run-rule victories. The Flashes' 27-0 victory over Youngstown State is the largest shutout in Division-I thus far this season. Kolton Schaller went 4-4 on the day and was a triple of the cycle. Hunter Klotz came off the bench and all he did was hit a pair of homers in the sixth inning. He became the first player to hit two homers in the same inning since Jess Bechard did it in 1998 against NIU.
The Flashes also swept Central Michigan at home to start MAC play at 3-0 this season. The Kent State pitching was on point, allowing six runs over the three games and only two of them were earned. The staff will have to slow down a Bobcat offense that has scored in double figures and averages nearly seven runs a game. Gideon Antle leads the MAC with a .458 average and leads the team with six homers and has driven in 18.
The Ohio staff has pitched to a 7.20 earned run average and batters hit .289 against Ohio pitching. The Cats dropped two of three to NIU last weekend to start MAC play but the trio of Blake Gaskey, Jacob Tate and Dillion Masters all tossed five innings and allowed no more than two earned runs.
All three of the games will air on the Ohio Bobcats You Tube Channel and stats will be provided via Stat Broadcast. The links are available on the baseball schedule page. The Flashes will stay on the road on Tuesday, making the quick trip east to the Steel City to take on Pitt. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
