Flashes Comeback Thwarted by Late Rally

ATHENS- Kent State rallied late against the Ohio Bobcats but the home side rallied back with a five-run eighth in a 9-4 setback in the series opener on Friday afternoon.
The game started with a bang as Kyle Jackson hit the first pitch of the game over the right field wall for a lead-off solo shot. Ohio responded with a lead-off homer of their own in the first and the game remained tied at one into the fourth. The Bobcats broke the tie with a two-run fourth and chased starter Jack Kartsonas an inning later.
The lead grew to 4-1 before the Flashes stormed back. Jake Casey hit a two-out, two-run homer in the seventh to cut the lead to one. Kent State tied it an inning later as Tim Orr singled Josh Johnson over to third and the grad student scored the tying run on a sac fly from Mike McNamara.
Ohio broke the game open in the bottom half of the eighth. The Bobcats used walks, bunt singles and two big hits with the bases loaded to strike for five in the frame. The Flashes would get a two-out walk but no more in the ninth as Ohio took the opener.
The loss snaps the Flashes five-game win streak as they drop to 8-9 overall and 3-1 in the MAC, Ohio is now 6-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Game two of the series is set for 2 p.m. tomorrow.
