KENT- Kent State women's golf alum McKenzie Lyng (Jackson) ('11) has announced plans to endow a women's golf scholarship, becoming the first women's golf alumni to do so.
Lyng was a member of the women's golf team from 2007-11 before embarking on a professional golf career that included the Canadian Tour and competing on the Golf Channel's Big Break. She has gone on to co-found BackSwing Golf Events a group of female professional golfers that bring a unique and fun approach to corporate and charity golf events.
"I want to give back to the program because I can make a difference in someone's life during their college golf career," Lyng said.
BackSwing Golf Events sends golf professionals to corporate and charity golf events as an extra way to raise money during the event. BackSwing sets up games like beat the pro and longest drive holes, etc. for each event. BackSwing ran their first event in 2015 and is now doing over 4,000 events a year. The company supports 250 lady professional golfers who are chasing their dreams of playing on the LPGA. The company paid out 1.6 million dollars directly back to the professionals working events for BackSwing in 2023. They also donated over 5 million to the charities they support in 2023.
"My entire business is built on helping women who want to play golf at the highest level. If I can start making a difference at the college level too, maybe it will make it easier for them coming out of college. I also want to make it known that there are opportunities within golf after college ends," Lyng added.
The Golden Flashes are back in action on March 30, heading to Oklahoma to participate in The Bruzzy, hosted by North Texas.
