KENT- Mike McNamara slugged a second inning grand slam and six Golden Flash pitchers combined to fly the flag in a 5-4 victory over the Pitt Panthers in front of a sold out Schoonover Stadium.

Ciaran Caughey retired the first seven batters of the game on Tuesday to earn his first victory of the season. Peyton Cariaco earned his first collegiate save, getting the final five outs on Tuesday night.

It closed out a wild night at Schoonover. McNamara hammered a 0-1 pitch over the left center field wall in the second, his second homer in two games. The senior made the Panthers pay for a pair of hit by pitches that sandwiched a Brody Williams' single.

Pitt cut the lead in half in the fourth, scoring two unearned runs off redshirt freshman Andrew Hendricx. Kent State got the run back in the fifth on a wall-scraping double from Kyle Jackson, plating Ripken Reese. It became a one-run game in the seventh on a two-run homer from Luke Cantwell.

Pitt thought to have the tying run at third off the bat of Tyler Bischke, but a textbook relay from Jake Casey to Ripken Reese to Mike McNamara to nab Bischke at third. Casey struck again in the ninth, throwing a runner out at second to set up the final out. Cariaco got a liner off the bat of CJ Funk that Kyle Jackson speared, securing the victory.

The victory evens up the season series with the Panthers at a game apiece and the overall record at 15-15. Kent State hits the road for the next four, starting with a three game trip to Toledo to face the Rockets. First pitch from the Glass City is set for 3 p.m.
