CINCINNATI – Kent State lost a non-conference volleyball contest to host Xavier, 3-0 (22-25, 27-29, 17-25), Friday evening at the Cintas Center.
Junior Kendall White registered her second double-double in a row with 30 assists and 10 digs to lead the way.
The Golden Flashes (1-6) had six different attackers with at least five kills. Sophomore Logan Henderson posted a team-high nine kills and freshman Avrey Rigney was close behind with seven.
Junior Greta Bolognini led the defense with 11 digs and senior Tylee Fuller added a season-high 10 digs.
How it Happened…
Set 1 (22-25): Neither team led by more than two until back-to-back kills by Liliana Mechura put Kent State ahead 16-13. The Golden Flashes were unable to score consecutive points again in the set, however, as Xavier closed with a 12-6 run.
Set 2 (27-29): Kent State scored the first four points and led 9-2 on an ace by Tylee Fuller. The Musketeers slowly chipped away at the deficit and used a 9-2 run to go ahead 24-21. Alexandria Connatser and Logan Henderson sent the set to extra points, teaming for a pair of blocks and adding one kill each to pull even at 25-25. Greta Bolognini followed with an ace to retake the lead, but Xavier got a kill to stay alive. A solo block by Avrey Rigney gave the Flashes another set point opportunity, but the host took the next three points for a 2-0 lead.
Set 3 (17-25): Xavier posted its best offensive set of the night with 18 kills and a .441 hitting percentage to close out the victory.
