Kent, Ohio- The Kent State soccer team will open Mid-American Conference play on the road on Thursday, Sept 19 at 7 p.m. in Toledo.
Last Time Out
The Golden Flashes (3-2-1) closed out the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 3-1 loss at no. 21 Kentucky last Friday.
Kentucky opened the scoring in the fourth minute off a header by Maddie Kemp. The Wildcats played a cross in that was headed off the post and was cleaned up by Maddie Kemp.
The Golden Flashes answered back in the 12th minute when Siena Stambolich played a long free kick into the box that found the head of Ava Todd whose header hit off the bar. But the ball found the foot of Kelsey Salopek was there to clean up the rebound for her first goal of the season.
The Wildcats would score the next two goals in the 39th and 51st minute to put the game out of reach.
Rising in the Record Book
Alisa Arthur is rising in many categories of the Kent State record book. The senior is now ninth in both goals (21) and points (56) and is knocking on the door of being in the top 10 in assists and shots on goal.
Offensive Efficiency
Kent State has averaged just under two and a half goals per game so far five games into the 2024 campaign, good for over double their goals per game (1.14) through their first seven games in 2023. In front of goal the Flashes are converting on 32% of their shots on goal, nine percent higher than their 2023 campaign's first seven games (24%).
Arthur has been the catalyst for the offense, netting five goals and one assist in 443 minutes this season. Fellow forwards Samantha Miller and Josie Morgan have both found the back of the net twice so far. Other goal scorers include Thea Helen Oberhoff, Alanna Raimondo, Addy Cusick, and Ava Todd. The Flashes look to find the net against a stout Toledo defense who has allowed seven goals in seven competitions this season.
