Toledo, Ohio- Kent State started Mid-American Conference play off on the right foot Thursday night, beating Toledo 1-0 in a hard-fought matchup.
The Golden Flashes improve to 4-2-1 on the season and 1-0 in MAC play, while the Rockets fall to 3-4-1 on the year and 0-1 in conference.
Both teams played physical from the first whistle and never let up on the intensity. The Flashes held 9-3 advantage in shots in the first half, but neither side could find the back of the net. Jules Dolinski led the Flashes' attack early firing four shots at the goal.
Kent State came out of the halftime break with an abundance of energy pinging the ball all over the field. Siena Stambolich would break the dead lock in the 77th minute. Jules Dolinski played a cross into the box that was punched out by the goalkeeper but landed at the feet of Alanna Raimondo who laid it off beautifully to Stambolich for her first goal of the season.
The Flashes' back line of Allison Collins, Ava Todd, Ali Weibel, and Kelsey Salopek had a strong game, holding the Toledo attack to just six shots and only one on goal. Goalkeeper Heidi Marshall saved the lone shot en route to her second shutout of the season.
Kent State held the advantage in shots (18-6) and shots on goal (8-1). Dolinski paced the Flashes' attack with seven shots and three on goal.
