
Vikings Spoil Home Opener

KENT, Ohio – Kent State fell to visiting Cleveland State, 3-0 (15-25, 23-25, 18-25), in the home opener at the M.A.C. Center on Thursday.
Redshirt senior Karina Salinas recorded her first double-double of the season with a team-high 12 kills to go with 11 digs. Senior Chelsea Harvey displayed her versatility from the setter position and finished with 23 assists, seven kills and five digs.
Junior Greta Bolognini led the defense with 19 digs.
How it Happened…
Set 1 (15-25): After falling behind 3-0 to start the contest, Kent State tied it on two kills from Mackenzie McGuire and an ace by Nadia Miller. McGuire finished the set with six kills, but Cleveland State hit at an efficient .405 clip to pull away in the opening set.
Set 2 (23-25): The Flashes trailed 8-2 early but fought back and used a six-point run to even it at 16-16. The Vikings won the next five points, but Kent State came right back with a 4-0 run to get within 21-20. The teams traded the next seven points as CSU secured a 2-0 lead.
Set 3 (18-25): The Flashes fought back from an eight-point deficit to get within 20-18, but the guests won the next five points to earn a sweep.
Up Next for the Flashes
The Golden Flashes (1-8) will travel to Youngstown State on Friday for the non-conference finale. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
