YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Kent State volleyball team was defeated by host Youngstown State, 3-0 (20-25, 12-25, 13-25), as the non-conference portion of the schedule came to an end on Friday.
Junior Mackenzie McGuire led the Golden Flashes (1-9) offensively with eight kills, while junior Greta Bolognini contributed 11 digs and three aces.
How it Happened…
Set 1 (20-25): Three aces by Greta Bolognini fueled a 7-0 run to tie it at 15-15. The teams then traded the next six points before a 6-0 run gave YSU breathing room. Karina Salinas recorded kills on the next two points, but Kent State was unable to complete an epic comeback.
Set 2 (12-25): The Golden Flashes led by three early before the Penguins went ahead with a 6-0 run. YSU added a 9-0 run later in the set to separate before taking the second set and a 2-0 lead in the match.
Set 3 (13-25): Kent State opened with a 4-1 lead but a series of unforced attack errors and YSU kills allowed the hosts to go on a 19-3 run.
