Golden Flashes in Second After 36 Holes at Boilermaker Classic

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Kent State women's golf team opened the 2024-2025 season on Monday with the opening two rounds of the Boilermaker Classic contested at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.Â
The Golden Flashes recorded a first-round team score of 297 (+9) to sit in third place entering round two. Kent State ended the day by firing a second-round score of 301 (+13), putting the Flashes in second place out of the field of 15 teams at 22-over-par ahead of Tuesday's final round.
Veronika Kedronova set the pace for the Flashes on day one. The reigning MAC freshman of the year marked an impressive opening round with four birdies, including back-to-back at hole no. 15 and 16, to sit at even-par heading into the second round of the day. In round two, the sophomore utilized birdies on two of her final three holes to overcome bogey troubles, finishing the day at 3-over-par and in sixth place among the field of 87 players.
Another impressive performance for the Flashes came from Gracie Larsen. After recording a 4-over-par 76 in the first round, the freshman from Australia used a five-birdie performance to fire a 1-over-par 73 in round two of her first collegiate tournament. Larsen is tied for tenth place on the individual leaderboard heading into round three on Tuesday.
Another freshman who impressed in her first collegiate action was Aryn Matthews. The Ontario native recorded back-to-back rounds of 3-over-par, tallying a total of seven birdies, to find herself at 6-over-par and tied for 15th place on the individual leaderboard following round two.
Reigning MAC player of the year Leon Takagi sits in a tie for 25th place entering Tuesday's final round after firing rounds of 74 and 78 on Monday.
Kent State trails tournament host Purdue by 13 strokes heading into round three after the Boilermakers recorded an impressive team score of 3-under-par in round one and 12-over-par in round two.
The Golden Flashes will look to finish strong in the third and final round of the Boilermaker Classic on Tuesday, with shotgun start tee times once again set for 9:00 a.m. EST.
