LUBBOCK, Texas – The Kent State women's golf team began their second tournament of the season on Tuesday with the first two rounds of the Red Raider Invitational contested at The Rawls Course. As a team, the Golden Flashes sit in fifth place out of the field of 16 teams at 3-over-par after recording a 2-over-par 290 in round one and a 1-over-par 289 in round two.
The story of the day for Kent State was the play of Veronika Kedronova. After leading the Flashes at the season-opening Boilermaker Classic three weeks ago, the reigning MAC freshman of the year continued her strong start to the season on Tuesday. Kedronova is tied for the lead among the field of 87 golfers after firing a 2-under-par 70 in round one and a 3-under-par 69 in round two to accumulate a total score of 5-under-par heading into Wednesday's final round.
Another Flash who has flourished early in the season is Gracie Larsen. The freshman from Australia fired back-to-back rounds of even-par 72 on Tuesday to conclude round two inside the top 20, tied for 17th place. After finishing inside the top ten to open her collegiate career at the Boilermaker Classic, Larsen will look to challenge the top of the leaderboard in Wednesday's third round.
Another freshman who put up a consistent performance on Tuesday was Isabella Goyette. The Medina, Ohio native recorded back-to-back rounds of 1-over-par 73 in just her second collegiate tournament to end the day at 2-over-par and tied for 23rd place after 36 holes.Â
In round one, the Flashes' final countable score toward the team total came from Leon Takagi, with a 3-over-par 75. The reigning MAC golfer of the year is tied for 48th at 8-over-par after shooting a 5-over-par 77 in round two. The final countable score toward the team total in round two was recorded by Aryn Matthews. The freshman recovered from an 8-over-par 80 in round one with a 3-over-par 75 in round two. Matthews is tied for 67th place entering tomorrow's third round.
The Flashes will conclude the Red Raider Invitational on Wednesday, with round three's shotgun start set for 10 a.m. EST.
