Kent, Ohio- The Kent State soccer team will continue their home stand on Thursday as the Miami RedHawks come into town. Kick is currently set for 7 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Golden Flashes started the home portion of their Mid-American conference slate with a 1-0 shutout of the Ball State Cardinals Sunday afternoon.
Neither side was able to find a goal in a first half of play dominated in the midfield. Goalkeeper, Heidi Marshall made three big saves to keep a zero on the board. The Flashes were limited in the attack during the first half with just one shot on goal and no corner kick opportunities.
Coming out the halftime break Kent State looked rejuvenated and started to put some quality attacks together. The Flashes would gain the advantage in the 73rd minute when Kelsey Salopek delivered a long cross from the right side that found the head of Alisa Arthur headed it off the bar in the top right corner and in. After the goal the teams would each only get one more shot a piece before the final whistle blew.
Rising in the Record Book
Alisa Arthur is rising in many categories of the Kent State record book. The senior is now ninth in both goals (22) and points (58) and is knocking on the door of being in the top 10 in assists and shots on goal.
Offensive Efficiency
Kent State has averaged just under two and a half goals per game through the non-conference portion of the 2024 campaign, good for over double their goals per game (1.14) through the non-conference potion of their 2023 schedule. In front of goal the Flashes are converting on 32% of their shots on goal, nine percent higher than their 2023 non-conference campaign (24%).
Arthur has been the catalyst for the offense, netting five goals and one assist in 443 minutes this season. Fellow forwards Samantha Miller and Josie Morgan have both found the back of the net twice so far. Other goal scorers include Thea Helen Oberhoff, Alanna Raimondo, Addy Cusick, and Ava Todd. The Flashes look to find the net against a stout Toledo defense who has allowed seven goals in seven competitions this season.
Scouting Miami
The RedHawks (4-2-3, 0-1-1 MAC) have started conference play with just one point from the first two games. Miami has been outscored 7-1 in those games.
Fifth year forward Taylor Hamlett leads the Miami offense with six goals and 14 points so far through eight games played. Maris Jennings is the maestro in midfield for Miami, the freshman leads the team with five assists.
Dominique Popa is the main woman in net for the RedHawks, the sophomore has played 630 minutes between the posts this season. Popa is coming off a game against Western Michigan where she recorded a season-high eight saves for the second time this season.

Kent State and Miami will face off for the 30th time on Thursday. The Golden Flashes trail slightly in the all-time series 10-5-4. RedHawks edged the Flashes 1-0 last year in Miami. Kent State is coming off a 1-0 win over Ball State on Sunday, while Miami is coming off a 6-0 loss to Western Michigan.
