Flashes Travel to The Steel City for Duel With Duquesne

Kent, Ohio- The Kent State soccer team travels to Pittsburgh on Sunday, Sept 8 at 1 pm to battle the Duquesne Dukes.
Last Time Out
Three second-half goals propelled the Kent State soccer team to a thrilling 3-2 win over Colgate Sunday afternoon at Beyer-Small '76 Field in Hamilton N.Y.
The Flashes came out of half time with renewed life scoring two goals in the first ten minutes of the second half. The equalizer was a beautiful ball from Allison Collins up to Alisa Arthur who split the Colgate defenders and finishes on her left foot. The game wasn't level for long as just five minutes later the Flashes get awarded a penalty and Arthur converts it putting it to the keepers left. The Raiders found an equalizer in the 71st minute off the foot of Darby Campbell.
But the Flashes would not be denied the win with freshman Addy Cusick playing hero in the 89th minute with a wondergoal from distance. Thea Helen Oberhoff plays the ball up to Cusick who takes two touches and struck the ball from 25 yards out and puts it top bins with just 17 second remaining on the clock.
Rising in the Record Book
Midfielder, Alisa Arthur, is rising in the record book in several categories for the Flashes. Arthur's brace against Colgate put her at 19 goals for her career, good for ninth on the all-time list. Her seven points on the season puts her at tenth on the all-time list with 52 points.
The Team
Coach Rob Marinaro will bring back of their 11 starters and including 84% of their goals and 75% of their assists from last year. The midfield trio of Arthur, Raimondo, and Siena Stambolich all return to propel the offensive attack with the forwards Josie Morgan and Mary Kate Lape.
Salopek, Ava Todd, and Joey Skillen return to form a defensive wall in front of goalkeeper Heidi Marshall.
The Flashes also welcome ten newcomers to campus, 7 freshman and 3 transfers. Emma Klain, Samantha Miller (Michigan State), Thea Helen Oberhoff (Daytona State), Addy Cusick, Jules Dolinski, Allison Burkey, Kate Thill (Bridgeport), Ali Weibel, Ava Lukyan, and Katie Henahan will all look to make an immediate impact on the field.
Scouting Duquesne
Duquesne was picked seventh in the preseason Atlantic 10 (A-10) coaches' poll after finishing fifth in the 2023 season. So far in 2024 the Dukes have reaped the benefits of a high-powered offense averaging four goals a game while their defense is only allowing one goal per game. Junior forward, Margy Brown, who leads the team in goals (6) and tied for the team lead in assists (4). Brown is coming off a one goal, three assist outing against Slipper Rock.
Series History
Kent State leads the all-time series 3-1. The two teams met last year at Dix Stadium with the Flashes coming out on top 2-1.
