Golden Flashes Fall to Toledo 45-10 in the Glass Bowl

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Kent State football team couldn't sustain its early momentum, falling to Toledo 45-10 on Saturday afternoon at the Glass Bowl.
The Flashes (2-5, 1-2 MAC) spectacularly opened the game when Dru DeShields connected with Cade Wolford on a 75-yard touchdown pass just 10 seconds into the contest. The explosive score marked Wolford's second touchdown reception of 75 or more yards this season, putting Kent State ahead 7-0.
Will Hryszko extended the lead to 10-0 with a 38-yard field goal midway through the first quarter, capping an 11-play, 45-yard drive that consumed nearly six minutes of clock. However, that would be all the scoring Kent State could muster.
Toledo (4-3, 2-2 MAC) responded with a touchdown late in the first quarter and never looked back, scoring 38 unanswered points. The Rockets' offense found its rhythm in the second half, scoring 28 points in the third quarter alone, including a blocked punt returned for a touchdown.
Quarterback Tucker Gleason completed 21 of 28 passes for 294 yards and four touchdowns. The Rockets' balanced attack also featured a strong ground game, rushing for 178 yards on 40 attempts.
Offensively, the Flashes struggled to generate sustained drives after their opening possession. DeShields finished 12-of-24 passing for 159 yards, one touchdown, and one interception while being sacked twice. Jordan Nubin led the rushing attack with 61 yards on 13 carries.
Kent State was outgained 552-224 in total offense and managed just nine first downs compared to Toledo's 29. The Flashes converted only three of 13 third-down attempts and held possession for just 26:12.
Defensively, Mason Woods paced Kent State with 10 tackles (six solo), while CJ Young added nine stops. The defense had no answer for Toledo's aerial attack, as five Rockets receivers caught touchdown passes.
The Flashes will return home next Saturday, October 25, when they host Bowling Green at noon on ESPN+. Kent State will look to win back-to-back home games for the first time since 2022.
