
Flashes Finish 14th at Fighting Irish Classic

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Kent State Herb Page men's golf team wrapped up its penultimate team event of the Fall on Tuesday with round three of the Fighting Irish Classic contested at Warren Golf Course. The Golden Flashes posted a 17-over-par 297 in round three to conclude the tournament at 45-over-par and in 14th place among the 16 teams competing.
UCLA completed a final-round comeback on 36-hole leader North Carolina on Tuesday to secure the team championship at the Fighting Irish Classic. The Bruins ended the event at 7-over-par, edging out the Tarheels by three strokes.
Nolan Haynes secured Kent State's best finish at the event, tying for 29th place at 5-over-par. It marks the second consecutive event that the sophomore has posted the Flashes' highest individual finish. Haynes concluded the event with a 4-over-par 74 in round three on Tuesday.
Ben MacLean posted the Flashes' second-best individual finish at the Fighting Irish Classic, tying for 61st place at 12-over-par. A senior from Canada, MacLean tallied a 5-over-par 75 in round three. Liam Curtis posted a third-round 4-over-par 74 to finish in 69th place at 15-over-par, just ahead of Darcy Hogg at 16-over-par, who also recorded a 4-over-par 74 on Tuesday to tie for 70th place.
The best round of the day for Kent State came at an event where the Flashes had three individuals competing. James Newton fired a 3-under-par 68 in the final round of the Tom Tontimonia Invitational, hosted by Cleveland State, to secure a tied third-place finish among the 75-golfer field. The senior recorded three birdies to just one bogey on Tuesday to conclude the event at 2-under-par, just three strokes behind the individual champion.
Ramiro Acevedo and Connor Malicki also wrapped up the Tom Tontimonia Invitational on Tuesday. Acevedo posted his second consecutive round of even-par to tie for 11th place at 2-over-par, while Malicki also fired an even-par 71 to tie for 23rd place at 5-over-par.
A handful of Golden Flashes golfers are set to compete at next week's Golden Flash Individual, before the team heads to California to wrap up the Fall season at the Cal Poly Invitational, beginning on Monday, October 27.
