
Kent State Wrestling To Host Two Dual Meets in Northeast Ohio This Weekend

Kent, Ohio.- The Kent State Wrestling team opens up dual action this weekend with two meets in less than 24 hours. On Friday, they will travel down the road to Stow-Munroe Falls High School to take on Mount Union at 6:30 P.M. On Saturday, the Golden Flashes hit the mat with a power-four program in the University of Virginia at St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio at 2 P.M.
Last Time Out
The Golden Flashes opened up the Josh Moore era with an impressive outing at the Michigan State Open last Saturday. The Blue and Gold produced 16 place-winners between two divisions, which was the most of any school at the Open.Â
JT Chance, Carson Miller and Mason Tieffel highlighted the team with second-place finishes. No team scores were reported.
Scouting Mount Union
The Purple Raiders come into the meet with a 1-0 Dual record with three days of competition already under their belts. Mount Union beat Muskingum by a score of 39-11 on Wednesday.Â
Junior Steven Marra(285) is the highest-ranked Purple Raider at 10 in Division III with a 4-0 record. Sophomore Josh Carman, who is ranked 12th, will come in with a 2-0 record at the 133-pound weight class.Â
Scouting Virginia
The Cavaliers also have three days of competition under their belts. They have competed in two dual meets and compiled a record of 1-1 at the Journeyman Wranglemania last Saturday in Bethlehem, PA. They took down Long Island University by a score of 39-3, while losing a close one to No. 8 Lehigh by a count of 21-17.
This season, the strongest wrestlers for Virginia come at the heavier weight classes. Nick Hamilton(174) is ranked 23rd with a record so far of 3-1, while Brenan Morgan(285) comes in with a ranking of 49th with a record of 2-0. Max Shulaw(197), has a record of 4-2 and is ranked 35th in the nation in his class.
Series History
Friday's meeting will be the first all-time matchup between Mount and Union and Kent State. On Saturday, Kent State will match-up against the Cavaliers for the 12th-time in history. The Golden Flashes hold the lead in the all-time series in duals with a record of 6-5 while Virginia most recently won in 2020 23-12. The Blue and Gold beat UVA in 2017 by a count of 20-18.
