KENT – Kent State Men's Basketball (7-1) returns to the MACC this Wednesday, Dec. 3 to host Austin Peay State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Golden Flashes seek to follow up their historic scoring performance and extend their winning streak to eight straight games. Their current streak is the longest since the six straight wins the program posted during the 2022-2023 season when Kent State won their final three games of the regular season prior to winning the 2023 MAC Championship Tournament.
Last Time Out
Most recently the Golden Flashes put-up record-breaking numbers in their 123-59 win over Penn State Shenango. Kent State fired out of the gate as Rayvon Griffith threw down the opening two points. That set the tone early as the Flashes led by as much as 20-0 before PSU Shenango got their first point. With 3:15 to play in the first have Deandre Jones netted his first collegiate points on his way to leading the roster. He went on to throw in his first dunk with 2:33 to play. Not to be out done Landon Vanderwarker put down a two-hand slam at 1:21. Cian Medley recorded 12 of his 16 assists in the first half as Kent State went to the locker room up 60-17. The Golden Flashes went right back to work in the second half. At 12:33 in the second half Medley dished the basketball to Dezmon Briscoe underneath who threw it down to make history giving the program record in assists in a single game to his teammate. With under 10 minutes to play Coach Senderoff fully emptied the bench with Jaymen Townsend, Drew Huffman, and Dylan Lakatos entering the game to thunderous applause in the M.A.C. Center. Both Huffman and Lakatos got on the score sheet prior to the final horn.Â
Scouting Austin Peay
The Golden Flashes have met the Governors of Austin Peay just once in history prior to Wednesday's game. The Governors enter this matchup with an overall record of 4-3 most recently snapping a two-game losing streak with a 77-59 win vs. Northern Illinois. Head Coach Corey Gipson is in his third season at the helm and holds an overall record of 37-38. He has led the Governors to the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Basketball Tournament in each of his first two seasons including an appearance in the ASUN Tournament Championship game in 2024.
