
Kent State to Close Out Non-Conference Home Stand Saturday Afternoon Against Roberts Wesleyan

KENT – Kent State Men's Basketball (8-1) returns to the MACC on Saturday, Dec. 6 to host the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan University. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. The Golden Flashes seek to extend their winning streak to nine straight games. Their current streak is the longest since the six straight wins the program posted during the 2022-2023 season when Kent State won their final three games of the regular season prior to winning the 2023 MAC Championship Tournament. Earlier that same season the Blue and Gold won 10 straight games between Dec. 10 and Jan. 20.
Last Time Out
Kent State recently defeated Austin Peay at home on Dec. 3 to extend their winning streak. KSU's early buckets came from Rob Whaley Jr., Delrecco Gillespie, and Jahari Williamson getting out to a 12-8 run by the first media timeout. The Governors stayed close behind tying the game at 14 with 12:00 to play in the first. The Golden Flashes utilized solid defense to go on a 15 to 12 run to take a 36-32 lead into the half. Austin Peay took their first lead of the game with back-to-back threes to start the second half. With 13:29 to play the Governors led by four points before the Flashes began their push to retake charge. Kent State used unselfish play to build their lead with Morgan Safford, Cian Medley, and especially Jahari Williamson heating up down the stretch. Great defensive play from Flashes such Rayvon Griffith allowed Kent State to put the game away in the closing minutes. The Blue and Gold ultimately took the game by 12 points in a 96-83 final.
Scouting Roberts Wesleyan
For the third time this season Kent State will tip-off against a program for the first time in school history. The Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks enter this matchup with an overall record of 1-5 having most recently lost three straight. Head Coach Mark Saladzius is in his seventh season at the helm of his alma mater where he captained the basketball team. Saladzius scored over 1,000 points and grabbed more than 500 rebounds in his career at Roberts Wesleyan. The Redhawks enter Saturday's game with five players averaging double-digits including Keonjay Carter (15.5 ppg), Collin Woods (14.3 ppg), Khalik Gardner (14.3 ppg), Jordan Brown (11.2 ppg), and Trey Kleitz (11 ppg).

Next Up for Kent State
Following Saturday, the Kent State will prepare for their first true road contests of the season. It will begin with a trip out to the University of Portland where the Golden Flashes will tip-off against the Pilots on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 5:00 p.m. estern time.
