MOBILE- The Kent State Golden Flashes fell to the South Alabama Jaguars Saturday night 3-5.
Freshman infielder, Sawyer Solitaria, hit the first two homers of his collegiate career. Solitaria's first of the night was a two-run opposite field shot that got the Flashes back into the game and cut the lead to 2-4. The Olmstead Falls native would add another in the ninth inning when he jumped all over a pitch to try and start a ninth inning rally.
The Jaguars scored two runs in the second and two more in the third to jump out to a 4-0 lead. It would stay that way thanks to Nick Guidas who pitched brilliantly in his Flashes debut. The left-hander pitched 2.2 innings and only allowed one hit. Caden Leonard also pitched well in his season debut allowing just one run. On three hits in his 2.1 innings of relief.
Transfers Billy Gerlot and Matt Thompson made their Kent State debut with Gerlot getting the start in left field.
Kent State is back in action Sunday afternoon against SIUE. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
