SARASOTA, Fla. – The Kent State women's golf team opened their second tournament of the Spring on Sunday with the first two rounds of the Spartan Sun Coast Collegiate contested at Palm Aire Country Club Champion's Course. Through 36 holes, the Flashes are tied for sixth place of the 15 teams competing at 7-over-par after posting rounds of 289 and 294 respectively in rounds one and two.
Kent State was led on the day by Leon Takagi and Veronika Kedronova, who each boast scores of 1-under-par after 36 holes to sit tied for ninth place among the 81 golfers competing after two rounds of play. Takagi's 71 and 72 on Sunday are her two best rounds of the 2024-2025 season as the 2024 MAC Golfer of the Year looks to return to form in her junior season. She tallied four birdies in round one before an exciting second round, which featured an eagle on her third hole and an additional four birdies.
Kedronova recorded her third round in the 60s and ninth round of par or better with a 69 in round one, an impressively consistent round of four birdies to just one bogey. Five birdies in her second round of the day were offset by a handful of bogeys as she tallied a 74 in round two to conclude the opening 36 holes a single stroke under par.
After winning MAC Golfer of the Week for her performance in her previous outing at the Puerto Rico Classic, Gracie Larsen posted a consistent day over two rounds for the Flashes on Sunday. She began the day with a 2-over-par 74 in round one, including one birdie and 14 pars, before recording an even-par 72 in round two, highlighted by four birdies. At 2-over-par through 36 holes, Larsen is tied for 23rd ahead of Monday's final round.
The Flashes' final score countable toward the team total in round one came from Aryn Matthews, who tallied a 3-over-par 75. Through two rounds of play, she is 8-over-par and tied for 55th. The final score countable toward the team total in round two was recorded by Petra Babicova, who recovered from a 7-over-par 79 in round one with a 4-over-par 76 in round two. She is tied for 72nd at 11-over-par entering Monday's final round.
