Flashes Comeback Comes Up Just Short Saturday

MACON- The Kent State Golden Flashes baseball team came up just short of a comeback against the Mercer Bears on Saturday afternoon falling 6-7.

Jake Casey was single handedly responsible for five of the Flashes six runs Saturday. The outfielder recorded three RBIs and two runs score himself.

Kent State would open the scoring in the top of the first inning after Luke Matthews started the game with a single and was brought into score just one batter later off an RBI double by Casey.

Mercer responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the first and took the lead on a two-run homer by Brant Baughcum.

The two teams exchanged blows in the fourth inning with a Brody Williams solo home run in the top of the inning and the bears responded with an RBI single in the bottom half.

Casey would then tie the game in the top of the fifth when the Senior parked a ball over the right field wall for his first homer of the year. Mercer responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and another run in the bottom of the sixth.

The Flashes cut the lead back down to one run in the seventh following an RBI single by Sawyer Solitaria and a bases loaded walk by Dom Kibler. Kent State would threaten with runners on the corners in the ninth inning but came up just short of extending the game.

The victory moves Mercer to 5-1 on the season, with the loss Kent State falls to 1-4. The two teams will meet for the finale of the three-game series on Sunday, with a 1 p.m. scheduled first pitch
