Flashes Drop Mercer Finale, 5-7

MACON- The Kent State Golden Flashes baseball team dropped the series finale to the Mercer Bears 5-7 Sunday afternoon.
The Flashes struck first scoring three runs in the top of the third inning. Freshman Sawyer Solitaria served a single out to left field that scored Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe and Jake Casey. Hunter Klotz continued the party with an RBI-Single to right field that scored Hayden Jatczak.
Mercer answered the Flashes three runs in the top of the third with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning. The Bears would then take the lead scoring two in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Brody Williams shot a single up the middle in the top of the eighth inning to cut the Mercer lead to two. But the Bears would answer back with an RBI single of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
The Flashes attempted another comeback in the top of the ninth plating a run thanks to a Solitaria sacrifice fly but couldn't get any more runs across.
Kent State will be back in action Friday afternoon when they take on East Carolina to kick off their weekend at the LeClair Classic. First pitch for Friday's contest is set for 4:30 p.m.
