
Flashes Baseball Heads to LeClair Classic

KENT- The Kent State Golden Flashes baseball team is set to continue their 2025 campaign with another road test at the LeClair Classic.
Kent State will open the weekend against the hosts, East Carolina, on Friday at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday will face off against Virginia Tech at 12 p.m. The Flashes will face Indiana State Sunday at 11 a.m. to close out the weekend.
Friday's contest against East Carolina will be streamed on ESPN Plus. Live stats will be available for all three games over the weekend.
About the Flashes
Kent State is coming into the LeClair Classic after getting swept by Mercer last weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday's loss came with the game tying or winning run on the base path in the top of the ninth.
Senior Outfielder, Jake Casey, had a stellar weekend recording six hits, four runs, and three RBIs over the series. Casey's weekend was highlighted by his 4-5 day at the plat on Saturday in which he was responsible for five of the Flashes' six runs scored.
Gavin Jones pitched well in a no-decision on Friday night. The right-hander tossed four inning and allowed three runs (two earned) while striking out four.
After pitching out of the bullpen redshirt-junior Nick Guidas makes the jump into the starting rotation. On the season Guidas has pitched to the tune of a 1.59 ERA over 5.2 innings allowing just one run to cross home plate

Friday: Gavin Jones, RHP vs. Ethan Norby, LHP
Saturday: Nick Guidas, LHP vs. TBA
Sunday: Jacob Bean, RHP vs. Ty Brooks, RHP
Scouting the Opposition
East Carolina
East Carolina comes into the weekend with a 3-5 record on the season but are coming off an 8-2 midweek win over Old Dominion. The Pirates put up a season-high eight runs and snapped a four-game losing streak.
Left-hander Ethan Norby is scheduled to make the start Friday evening. The Sophomore comes into Friday at 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA over 10 innings pitch. Norby has recorded back-to-back starts with six strikeouts and one or less walks.
Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech comes into Greenville with a 6-2 record and are the winner of three straight. The Hokies took down James Madison on Wednesday night in Blacksburg 7-2.
The Hokies offense is led by redshirt-senior Sam Tackatt. The Utility man is hitting .500 on the season and leads the team in hits (13), home runs (4), runs (10), and RBI (12). Virginia Tech is seventeenth in the nation in runs score with 83 runs scored through the first eight contests.
Indiana State
Indiana State comes into the LeClair Classic and 5-3 on the season and are coming off back-to-back wins over Northeastern and Bethune-Cookman.
Ty Brooks is slated as the starter for the Sunday matinee. The true freshman has had a great start to his collegiate career, he is 1-0 in two starts with a 3.60 ERA. Brooks is limiting opposing offenses to a .293 batting average and is striking out just under a batter per inning.
On Deck for the Flashes
The Flashes will return to the friendly confides of Schoonover Stadium on Tuesday Mar. 4, to open the home portion of the schedule against Mercyhurst. The homestand continues into weekend four where Kent State will open MAC play against Northern Illinois Mar. 7-9.
