Flashes' Undefeated Record at Stake at Northern Illinois

KENT, Ohio - The Kent State gymnastics team is set for their third fifth meet of the season and third MAC competition of the season on Friday as the Flashes head to Northern Illinois. The meet is set to begin at 8 p.m. EST at the Convocation Center in DeKalb.
ABOUT THE FLASHES
The Flashes improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference with a 195.275-194.650 dual meet victory over Western Michigan in the MAC Center last Sunday. Alyssa Guns earned her second MAC Specialist of the Week award of the season for a pair of phenomenal performances on the beam and floor in the meet. Guns won both events, tallying a 9.875 on the beam before willing the Flashes to the overall team victory with a near-flawless 9.900 on the floor in the Flashes' final rotation. Heidi Schultz also impressed on the beam, matching Guns' 9.875 on beam to also claim a share of the event title. On vault, Charlie Behner led the Flashes with a 9.850 to win the event. The only event not won by a Kent State gymnast was bars, where the Flashes were once again led by Nastia Rudnitskaya, who earned a score of 9.825.
SCOUTING NORTHERN ILLINOIS
The Huskies enter Friday's matchup with an overall record of 2-7. However, Northern Illinois opened MAC competition 1-0 last Sunday with a dual meet victory over Eastern Michigan in Dekalb, where the Huskies recorded their highest team score of the season with a 193.375. Ellery Werner earned the highest score in any event for the Huskies, tallying a score of 9.875 on the beam.
SERIES HISTORY
The Flashes are 46-14 all-time against Northern Illinois, bolstering a two-meet win streak in the series. Kent State defeated the Huskies twice last season, 196.925-195.325 in the dual meet at the MAC Center and 197.725-196.400 last January at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic. The Huskies' last victory over Kent State came in the Flashes' last visit to DeKalb in 2023, 195.375-195.025.

The Flashes will hit the road once again for a tri-meet against a pair of Big Ten schools as Rutgers hosts Kent State and Michigan in Piscataway, New Jersey on Saturday, February 15, at 5 p.m.
