Flashes Down Huskies in Friday Night Duel

DEKALB, Ill. – The Kent State gymnastics team competed against Northern Illinois in a dual meet on Friday night at the NIU Convocation Center, the squad's fifth overall meet and third MAC meet of 2025. The Flashes defeated the Huskies 195.200-193.450, to improve to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in MAC competition.
ROTATION 1 – BARS
The Flashes claimed the top three scores on bars, with Heidi Schultz and Nastia Rudnitskaya tying for first with scores of 9.775. The pair finished just ahead of Brynne Tsipis, who finished third in the event with a score of 9.725. Freshman Sophia Balko and sophomore Nene Alvine tied for fifth in the event with a pair of 9.650s.
ROTATION 2 – VAULT
Alvine stepped up for Kent State on vault, tying for first in the event and leading Kent State by earning a score of 9.825. Gabby Riley posted the second-best score for the Flashes on vault, tying for third in the event with a score of 9.750.
ROTATION 3 – FLOOR
Kent State earned their best team score in any event this season on the floor, tallying a team score of 49.125. The Flashes were once again led by Alyssa Guns, who recorded a 9.900, her third meet in a row with a 9.900 or better on the floor, to win the event. She was followed closely by Alvine and Riley, who each earned a 9.875 in the event to finish tied for second.
ROTATION 4 – BEAM
In the final rotation of the night, Ashley Morgan was the leader for the Flashes. The sophomore earned a 9.825 to win the event. She was closely followed by Alvine and Schultz, who earned scores of 9.800 and 9.775 respectively to help close out the dual meet win for Kent State.
