
Golden Flashes Take Down Sun Belt Leading Arkansas State

KENT – The Kent State Men's Basketball team defeated the Red Wolves of Arkansas State University on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 76-75. Jalen Sullinger led the Flashes with 27 points, while Jamal Sumlin and Marquis Barnett were perfect from the free throw line playing a clutch role down the stretch.
The first half was a tale of streaks as Arkansas State kept their pace with Kent State's hot start. Sullinger and Delrecco Gillespie led the charge for the Flashes both scoring double-digits in the opening 20 minutes. Arkansas State outscored Kent State 15-13 over the last seven minutes but only led the Flashes by three at the break. Kent State quickly erased the Red Wolves' lead to open the second. The game seesawed back and forth with 25 lead changes. With 45 second to play Sullinger drained a jumper giving KSU the lead. The Red Wolves responded with a dunk at the other end. With 15 seconds left Sumlin hit a pair of free throws giving the Flashes the lead before grabbing the game winning rebound.
With the victory the Golden Flashes have gone 2-0 in the MAC-SBC Challenge for the season. Delrecco Gillespie led Kent State in rebounds for the second straight game with nine. His 12 points were just one shy of his career high scored on Feb. 4. Sullinger led the Flashes in scoring with 27 also going perfect at the FT line 5-5. Barnett's 14 points were his sixth double-digit game of the season and his second hist total in a Kent State uniform.
