BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Redshirt sophomore Kendal Leitner hit her first collegiate home run as part of a three-hit day as Kent State continued opening weekend at the Camel Stampede.
The Golden Flashes (1-3) lost to host Campbell, 9-3, in the first game of the day and then fell to East Tennessee State, 5-3, in the nightcap.
Leitner had both of Kent State's extra-base hits with a double and home run while recording two RBIs and two runs scored. She also made relief appearances in both games and totaled 1.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
Game 1: Campbell, 9, Kent State 3
The Camels plated runs in each of the first three innings to take a 7-0 lead.
The Golden Flashes got on the board in the top of the fourth. Kendal Leitner drove in Carley Penner with a two-out single. Delaney Robeson followed with a single to load the bases, and Brynn Libler drew a full-count walk to bring in Katie Jo Moery and make it 7-2.
Leitner recorded her second hit of the game with a double to extend the top of the sixth and scored on a single through the left side by Robeson.
Campbell added two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Game 2: ETSU 5, Kent State 3
The Golden Flashes struck for a pair of runs in the top of the first, as Aaralyn Nogay reached on an error before stealing second and then running home on throwing error. Kendal Leitner added to the lead with a solo homer to left field.
After a three-run home run put the Buccaneers ahead in the bottom of the second, Kent State tied it in the top of the third. Nogay started the frame by drawing a walk before advancing to second on a wild pitch and then to third on a groundout. Savannah Wing then brought her home with a sac fly.
