Flashes Finish Eighth at Briar’s Creek Invitational

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – The Kent State women's golf team wrapped up their third tournament of the Spring on Tuesday with the second and final round of the Briar's Creek Invitational. The Flashes posted a 13-over-par 301 on Tuesday to conclude the tournament at 14-over-par and tied for eighth place among the 17 teams competing
After playing the opening round on Sunday, the tournament was shortened to a 36-hole format due to inclement weather on Monday.
The highest individual finisher for the Flashes was actually not a part of the team lineup. Petra Babicova, who competed this week as an individual, posted a 1-under-par 71 on Tuesday to conclude the event at even-par, clinching the best round of the day by a Kent State golfer and the best overall finish in the event by a Golden Flash. The freshman tallied five birdies in her final round on Tuesday to record her best score of the season and conclude the tournament tied for 13th among the 100 competing golfers.
The highest score among players competing in the Flashes' team lineup on Tuesday was earned by Veronika Kedronova, who posted a 1-over-par 73. With a strong final round, the sophomore concludes the tournament at 5-over-par and tied for 39th place. A 2-over-par 74 by Leon Takagi enabled her to record a second consecutive top 30 finish, as she ends the event tied for 28th at 3-over-par.
The final two scores countable toward the Kent State team total were recorded by the freshman duo of Gracie Larsen and Aryn Matthews. Larsen tallied a 4-over-par 76 in round two to post a 6-over-par finish and tie for 42nd place individually. Matthews posted a 6-over-par 78 on Tuesday to conclude the tournament at 11-over-par and tied for 70th place.
After a strong opening round on Sunday, freshman Isabella Goyette posted an 8-over-par 80 in round two to finish in a tie for 24th place at 2-over-par. It is the third top 25 finish of the freshman's collegiate career.
The Flashes return to action on Friday, March 21, as they head to Tallahassee, Florida to take part in the Florida State Match-Up.
