
Flashes Head to Bowling Green to Clash with Falcons

KENT- The Kent State Golden Flashes Baseball team (8-10) will resume Mid-American Conference play this weekend on the road in Bowling Green. The two teams will meet for a three-game series with a 3 p.m. first pitch on Friday and 1 p.m. first pitch on Saturday and Sunday.
There will be no stream, but live stats will be available for all three contests.
Last Time Out
The Flashes baseball team came up short against the Pitt Panthers on Wednesday afternoon falling 13-17
The Flashes opened the scoring in the top of the first inning thanks to a Jake Casey home run. The Pittsburgh native got his pitch and drove it out over the wall in centerfield.
The Panthers would respond with five runs of their own in the bottom first and three in the bottom of the second.
Kent State chipped away at the Pitt lead with four runs in the top of the third. Sawyer Solitaria would shoot a single up the middle and the Hunter Klotz would follow up just a few batters later with a three-run blast over the right field wall.
Ripken Reese would open the top of the fourth with a moonshot deep to left. Solitaria would then give then Flashes the lead on a double that found its way out to the left centerfield gap and score Casey and Hayden Jatczak.
Pitt would regain the lead with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth. They would extend their lead with one in the bottom of the sixth and seventh.
The Flashes would cut into the Panthers in the bottom of the eighth with four runs. Reese would rope an RBI double into the gap in left centerfield and Brady Marshall followed it up with an RBI single to right. Jatczak would plate two more on a 2-run opposite field homer over the wall in right field.

Scouting the Opposition
Bowling Green enters the weekend winners of their last ten straight games and are off to a 15-5 start on the season, tied for the second-best start through 20 games in program history.
The Falcons return two-way pitcher/outfielder DJ Newman who was named second-team all-MAC a season ago after an injury cut his season short. Newman is hitting .452 with 28 hits, 21 runs, and 11 RBIs. On the mound Newman has made three starts and is pitching to the tune of a 3.65 ERA over 12.1 innings while striking out 12.
Also returning for Bowling Green is reigning MAC Freshman of the Year Garrett Wright. So far in 2025 the catcher has started all 20 games for the Falcons and is hitting .392 with 29 hits, 22 runs scored, and 18 RBIs.
On Deck for the Flashes
Kent State will return home for a two-game midweek series with #9 Oregon on Mar. 25 and 26. Both games are currently slated for a 3 p.m. first pitch and will be steamed on ESPN+.
Next weekend the Flashes will stay home and welcome in the Toledo Rockets for youth sports weekend.
