Flashes in Tenth at Florida State Match Up

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Kent State women's golf team opened their final tournament of March on Friday with the opening round of the Florida State Match Up at Seminole Legacy Golf Club. The Flashes fired a 19-over-par 307 on the opening 18 to sit in tenth place of 13 teams competing.
Tournament host Florida State sits atop the team standings after round one at 2-under-par, followed closely by Illinois at 1-under-par. All 11 other teams competing posted rounds of 11-over-par or worse in round one.
Three individuals tied for the best round of the opening day for Kent State, as Veronika Kedronova, Gracie Larsen, and Leon Takagi each fired rounds of 76 at 4-over-par. Larsen led the Flashes with five birdies on Friday, the third most among all players, while Kedronova and Takagi each posted a team-high ten pars on the day. The trio is tied for 25th among the 73 golfers competing ahead of tomorrow's second round.Â
Larsen will hope for a big final two rounds to record the third top-20 finish of her freshman season. Takagi's strong start continues a hot streak that has seen her record her first two top-30 finishes of the season in her last two outings for Kent State. Kedronova will seek her team-high sixth top-20 finish of the season if she can climb the leaderboard in the final two rounds.
Isabella Goyette represented the fourth and final countable score toward the Kent State team total in round one as she recorded a 7-over-par 79. After a solid even-par start through six holes, bogey troubles on the back nine have the freshman tied for 47th after round one.Â
The Florida State Match Up continues for the Flashes with round two on Saturday. Tee times are slated to begin at 8:45 a.m.
