Flashes Fly By Rockets on Saturday

KENT- The Kent State Golden Flashes baseball team took down the Toledo Rockets on Saturday by a score of 10-1.
On the mound for the Flashes redshirt-sophomore, Jacob Bean, was dominant on Saturday. The right-hander delivered another quality start going 6.1 innings allowing just one run on just two hits while striking out Rockets.
Brody Williams opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a two-run single served out to centerfield. Jake Casey added the Flashes third run of the day on a solo homer over the wall in right field.
Kent State would break the game wide open scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth. The first two would come off back-to-back RBI singles by Luke Matthews and Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe. The next three runs would come off an interesting three-run homer off the bat of Hayden Jatczak. The graduate student would ambush the first pitch and give it a ride up the left field line that was initially called foul, but after review it was deemed to be a fair ball and Jatczak made his trip around the base.
Toledo would get their one run on a homer in the fifth. Bean would bounce right back a few batters later making a kick save on a ball up the middle and ranges over to his left to make the sliding flip to Hunter Klotz to get the out at first.
The Flashes would get two more runs of insurance with solo shots by Alejandro Covas in the fifth and Sawyer Solitaria in the eighth.
Coach Mike Birkbeck would turn to Benny Roebuck during the seventh inning and the graduate student pitched the final 2.2 innings of the game allowing no hits and striking out five Rockets.
On Deck for the Flashes
Kent State will break out their all-gold uniforms for the first time on Sunday as the Flashes go for the sweep of Toledo. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
