KENT- The Kent State Golden Flashes baseball team completed the sweep of the Toledo Rockets on Sunday afternoon by a score of 6-2. The sweep is the Flashes first of the 2025 season.

Kent State would strike first on Sunday afternoon on an RBI infield single by Sawyer Solitaria.

Toledo would go on to take just their second lead of the weekend in the top of the fourth scoring two runs. The lead would not last long as Alejandro Covas would tie the game up in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI double up the right field line.

Jake Casey would give the Flashes the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on a towering homer deep over the wall in right field. The moment was made even better for Casey as his dad, Sean Casey, joined Dane Richardson in the broadcast booth during the fifth inning.

Covas would score the Flashes fifth run of the afternoon on an error by the catcher. Covas stole third and then came in to score as the ball rolled to the outfield grass.

Kent State would get their last run of insurance off the red-hot bat of Casey who roped an RBI double off the wall in right center field.

Eric Chalus got the start for the Flashes and pitched 3.1 innings allowing just two runs on three hits and striking out four. But, the start of the show on the mound for Kent State was Rocco Bernadina, the right-hander pitched the final 5.2 innings of the game only allowing two hits while striking out seven Rockets.

On Deck for the Flashes

Kent State will stay at Schoonover and host a pair of midweek games. On Tuesday the Mercyhurst Lakers return to Schoonover after the game scheduled to be in Erie Pa. was moved to Kent. On Wednesday the Flashes will welcome in the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets. Both games are set for a 3 p.m. first pitch
