Flashes Host Northern Illinois to Open Up MAC Play

KENT- The Kent State Golden Flashes Baseball team is set to open Mid-American Conference play at Schoonover Stadium this weekend when the Northern Illinois Huskies home to town.
Friday's contest has been moved up to 12 p.m. due to inclement weather forecasted in the afternoon.
All three games will be steamed for free on BoxCast with Owen Klein on the call. Live stats will also be available for all three contests.
Last Time Out
The Flashes opened up the home portion of their 2025 schedule with a dominant 18-6 win over the Mercyhurst Lakers.
Jake Casey and Hayden Jatczak paced the Flashes offense from the top two spots in the batting order. The seniors reached base in all eight of their at bats with Jatczak reaching on a fielder's choice. From the leadoff spot Casey went 3-3 with two walks, five runs scored, one RBI, and four stolen bases. But Jatczak was the star of the show going 4-5 (reaching on a fielder's choice) with two doubles, a home run, seven RBIs, four runs scored, and two stolen bases.
Kent State would go on to score their last six runs courtesy of the long ball. Dom Kiber hammered a two-run shot over the right field wall in the sixth. Ripken Reese followed it up in the seventh with a missile over the tall wall in right-center. Then Jatczak delivered the knockout punch with a three-run moonshot over the wall in left field to enact the run rule.

Scouting the Opposition
Northern Illinois comes into Schoonover Stadium at 6-4 on the year and are coming off a four-game sweep of Southern Illinois Edwardsville (SIUE) last weekend.
Adam Brouwer is the ace for the Huskie's pitching staff. The redshirt junior is one of 21 qualifying pitchers in the country to have a 0.00 ERA through the first three weeks of the 2025 season. Last weekend Brouwer struck out 13 batters in NIU's series opening win over SIUE en route to being named MAC Pitcher of the Week.
