Flashes Open MAC Play with Run-Rule Victory Over Huskies

KENT- The Kent State Golden Flashes baseball team opened up Mid-American Conference play with a big 15-5 win over the Northern Illinois Huskies. The Flashes scored eight runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to enact the run-rule.
Kent State picked up right where they left off on Tuesday and scored three runs in the first. Hunter Klotz opened the scoring with a 2-RBI double into left center and then Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe followed that up with an RBI single of his own.
The Huskies would tie the game up with three runs of their own in the top of the fifth inning. But the Flashes regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a Brody Williams RBI double. Rienstra-Kiracofe would extend the lead just a few batters later a two-RBI triple over the head of the center fielder.
The teams exchanged runs in the seventh with Williams stealing home as part of a double steal. Northern Illinois would get one run in the top of the eighth to cut the Kent State lead down to just two runs.
Hayden Jatczak kicked off the Flashes eight run eighth inning with an RBI double sliced down the right field line. A few batters later Sawyer Solitaria would plate two runners on his single through the left side. The Flashes would score their final four runs by two bases loaded hit by pitches, an RBI fielder's choice, and a wild pitch.
Due to forecasted cold temperatures on Saturday Mar. 8 the two teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday March 9. First pitch for the doubleheader is slated for noon ET.
