
Kent State Softball Travels to Youngstown State on Tuesday

The Kent State softball team will conclude the non-conference schedule on Tuesday with a single game at Youngstown State that is slated for 3 p.m.
About the Flashes
Kent State outscored Northern Illinois, 20-17, during this past weekend's series at Devine Diamond. After dropping the first two games, the Golden Flashes used a seven-run bottom of the sixth, their highest scoring inning since opening weekend, to take the finale on Sunday by a score of 9-3.
Senior Katie Jo Moery and sophomore Megan Claerhout were the top hitters in the series. Moery went 6-for-11 with one double, one home run, four RBIs and four runs scored. Claerhout went 5-for-10 with one home run, three RBIs and three runs scored.
Led by senior Delaney Nagy and freshman Ella Johnson, the pitching staff recorded a 2.33 ERA. Nagy had two strikeouts and did not allow an earned run in 7.1 innings, while Johnson allowed one earned run with five strikeouts over 7.1 innings.
Scouting the Opposition
Youngstown State (11-36) has scored more than one run just three times during its current seven-game losing streak. Lydia Wilkerson is the top batter with a .387 average and 26 RBIs. Kennedy Dean adds a team-high 26 RBIs. Kelsey Ogin (4-11) leads the pitching staff with 67 strikeouts and a 5.14 ERA.
Series History
Kent State has gone 53-15 all-time against Youngstown State. The Golden Flashes earned a 2-1 victory in the home opener at Devine Diamond last season. This will be the first trip to Youngstown since March 20, 2019, when the teams split a doubleheader.
On Deck
Kent State is scheduled to play six of the final eight games of the season on the road, beginning this weekend with a three-game series at Western Michigan.
