
Flashes Dominate MAC Postseason Women’s Golf Honors

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced its women's golf postseason awards on Friday, with the MAC champion Golden Flashes extremely well represented. Kent State is fresh off the program's 26th consecutive MAC Championship, which they claimed on Tuesday with a 28-stroke victory at Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Indiana.
Kent State claimed all three specialty awards as sophomore Veronika Kedronova was named MAC Golfer of the Year, Gracie Larsen was tabbed as the MAC Freshman of the Year, and head coach Casey VanDamme earned the conference Coach of the Year honor. The Flashes also have four First Team All-MAC selections: Kedronova, Larsen, Isabella Goyette, and Leon Takagi. Aryn Matthews rounds out five Kent State golfers to be recognized, earning a Second Team All-MAC selection.
Veronika Kedronova: MAC Women's Golfer of the Year, First Team All-MAC
Kedronova earns the conference Golfer of the Year honor as a sophomore after being named the MAC Freshman of the Year in 2024. She earned two individual wins this season at the Red Raider Invitational and the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational, also recording a runner-up finish at the Therese Hession Buckeye Invitational. Kedronova leads the team and conference with a 72.66 scoring this season, posting 14 rounds of par or better and five rounds in the 60s. Additionally, she has tallied an extraordinary eight top-ten individual finishes in 2024-25. Kedronova was also named to the All-MAC First Team for her performance this season.
Gracie Larsen: MAC Freshman of the Year, First Team All-MAC
Larsen wins MAC Freshman of the Year after a debut campaign featuring three top-15 finishes, culminating in a runner-up finish at the MAC Championship. The Australian was second on the team with a 74.97 scoring average, posting eight rounds of par or better in 32 official rounds of competition for the Flashes in 2024-25. Larsen was also named to the All-MAC First Team for her performance this season.
Head Coach Casey VanDamme: MAC Coach of the Year
VanDamme earns his third consecutive MAC Coach of the Year honor, marking the third time he has won the award in his four years as the head coach of the Golden Flashes. Under his leadership, Kent State has continued the program's MAC Championship streak, which now sits at 26 after this week's victory.
Isabella Goyette: First Team All-MAC
Goyette claims a spot on the All-MAC First Team to conclude her freshman season for the Flashes. She posted her best finish of the 2024-25 season this week at the MAC Championship, tying for second place alongside two of her teammates at 3-over-par. Goyette has five rounds of par or better in her freshman season and is one of just two Kent State golfers to record a round in the 60s, a feat she accomplished twice. Her 66 in the opening round of the Briar's Creek Invitational was the lowest round recorded by a Flash this season.
Leon Takagi: First Team All-MAC
Takagi is selected to the All-MAC First Team for the second consecutive year, after being named to the Second Team as a freshman in 2023. The 2024 MAC Golfer of the Year, Takagi improved throughout the season as a junior, earning her five best finishes in the Spring. She posted six rounds of par or better this season, all coming in the Spring, culminating in a tied eighth-place finish at the MAC Championship.
Aryn Matthews: Second Team All-MAC
Matthews' All-MAC Second Team distinction rounds out all-conference honors for all five golfers to regularly appear in the Kent State lineup. Alongside Larsen and Goyette, Matthews carded her best finish of the season at this week's MAC Championship as a joint runner-up. She accumulated a 75.72 scoring average in 29 rounds of play for the Flashes in 2024-25, posting four top-15 finishes as a freshman.
