Leitner’s Career Day at the Plate Leads Kent State in Series Finale at WMU

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Kent State redshirt sophomore Kendal Leitner reached safely in all four trips to the plate and recorded a career-high six RBIs, but Western Michigan scored once in each of the final two innings for a walk-off 7-6 victory in the series rubber match on Sunday.

The Golden Flashes scored in the top of the first for the fourth consecutive game, as junior Brynn Libler singled and advanced on an error before scoring on Leitner's first hit of the day.

Western Michigan took the lead on a three-run homer in the bottom of the first.

Three straight singles in the top of the third by Libler, sophomore Megan Claerhout and Leitner made it a 3-2 game, but the Broncos scored twice in the bottom half of the inning to extend their lead to two.

Leitner launched Kent State's first grand slam of the season to go ahead 6-5 in the top of the fourth.

WMU tied it with three singles in the sixth and plated the winning run in the seventh following a double, sac bunt and infield single.

Kent State opens the final week of the season with a home doubleheader at Devine Diamond on Tuesday against Toledo. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
