
Kent State Softball Hosts Toledo for Wednesday Doubleheader to Finish Home Slate

The Kent State softball team will play a doubleheader against Toledo on Wednesday, April 30. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Devine Diamond.
The final home date of the season has been designated as Bark in the Park. Fans are encouraged to bring their furry friends to support the Golden Flashes and will receive a Kent State Softball dog bowl.
About the Flashes
Kent State nearly won its first Mid-American Conference series over the weekend after splitting a doubleheader on Saturday, but host Western Michigan scored a run in the sixth and seventh innings for a walk-off victory in the rubber match on Sunday. Sophomore Megan Claerhout, redshirt sophomore Kendal Leitner and junior Brynn Libler each had five hits to lead the Golden Flashes in the series. Leitner recorded eight RBIs, including a career-high six on Sunday, and Libler scored six runs.
Each member of that trio, which has combined for 46 RBIs during April, is hitting above .400 for the month. Leitner ranks among the top five in the MAC in both batting average (.396) and OPS (1.071) while sharing the team lead with 31 RBIs. Libler has reached base in 17 consecutive games and is tied for fifth in the conference with 55 hits.
Freshman Ella Johnson ranks fifth in the country with 41 appearances and has a team-high 60 strikeouts.
Scouting the Opposition
Toledo (17-26, 10-12 MAC) has won four in a row to get within 1.5 games of sixth in the conference standings entering the final week of the regular season. The Rockets have launched a program record 48 home runs this season. Samantha Bolding homered four times in this past weekend's series against rival Bowling Green and leads the team with 12 on the season. Audrey Miller and Kendra VanderLugt have hit nine long balls each. Miller is among the top freshmen in the MAC and leads Toledo with a .341 batting average and 40 RBIs.
Sophia Knight (10-11) leads the pitching staff with a 4.03 ERA. Knight ranks second in the conference in innings pitched (156.1) and third in strikeouts (98).
Series History
Kent State is 66-45 all-time against Toledo. The Rockets have won five of the last six meetings, including two of three in Toledo last season.
On Deck
Kent State will close the season with a three-game series at rival Akron this weekend. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday with the finale on Sunday.
