
Leitner’s Grand Slam Leads Golden Flashes in Doubleheader Split to Close Home Schedule

KENT, Ohio – Redshirt sophomore Kendal Leitner drove in six runs as Kent State split a doubleheader with Toledo to conclude the home schedule at Devine Diamond on Wednesday. The Golden Flashes lost the opening game by a score of 11-4 and then won the second game, 11-5.
Leitner continued to swing a hot bat and totaled four hits, including a grand slam, in the twinbill. Sophomore Aaralyn Nogay went 4-for-4 in the opener. Senior Delaney Robeson launched her 19th career long ball to move into a tie for 10th on Kent State's career home runs list.
Game 1: Toledo 11, Kent State 4
Behind a trio of extra-base hits, Toledo led 7-0 after two innings.
Kent State got on the board in the third inning on a double by Brynn Libler. Kendal Leitner followed with a single to bring Libler home.
The Golden Flashes got within 7-3 in the bottom of the fifth, which started with a double by Aaralyn Nogay. After advancing on a foul out on the first base side, Nogay scored on Megan Claerhout's single.
The Rockets scored one in the top of the sixth to go back ahead by four.
Delaney Robeson started the bottom of the sixth with a solo homer.
Toledo added three final runs on four hits in the top of the seventh.
Game 2: Kent State 11, Toledo 5
The Flashes struck for a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning, as Brynn Libler and Savannah Wing scored on a hit by Megan Claerhout.
Toledo tied it with a two-run homer in the top of the second.
Kent State exploded for six in the bottom of the second. Katie Jo Moery started the frame with a single and scored on a double by Kasey Markusic. After three straight walks plated a second run, Kendal Leitner launched her second grand slam in the last four days to make it 8-2.
Aggressive baserunning led to another run in the bottom of the third. Markusic singled to right field and was replaced at first by Brooke Aberle, who stole second and then scored on a bunt single by Libler.
After the Rockets scored two in the top of the fourth, the Flashes matched it in the bottom half. Wing recorded a single and scored on a double by Leitner. After advancing on a passed ball, Leitner came home on a sac fly by Delaney Robeson.
Toledo scored a final run in the top of the seventh.
Delaney Nagy went the distance in the circle and had one strikeout.
On Deck for the Flashes
Kent State will close the season with a three-game series at rival Akron this weekend. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday with the finale on Sunday.
