GROVE CITY, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference revealed the recipients of the 2025 men's golf specialty awards at the conclusion of the MAC Championship on Tuesday, with Kent State claiming the conference's Golfer of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year awards.
Jordan Gilkison claims MAC Golfer of the Year after a phenomenal senior season in which he claimed three individual wins: the Flyer Classic in October, the Buckeye Classic earlier this month in Columbus, and the individual title at this week's MAC Championship. He led the Flashes with a 70.88 scoring average this season, posting 24 rounds of par or better and 13 rounds in the 60s. Gilkison recorded 8 top-five finishes in 11 official tournaments this season. His honor marks the 20th time a Kent State golfer has been named MAC Golfer of the Year, joining the likes of Ben Curtis, Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith, and head coach Jon Mills.
Isaiah Ibit is named MAC Freshman of the Year after an impressive debut campaign. The Canadian international appeared in all 11 team events for Kent State this season, posting 4 top-ten finishes. Ibit is second on the team with a 72.39 scoring average, 18 rounds of par or better, and 12 rounds in the 60s this season. At both the Canadian Collegiate and the Hal Williams Intercollegiate, Ibit fired three consecutive rounds in the 60s, a feat only accomplished seven times in Kent State history. Ibit's honor marks the 14th time in program history a Golden Flash has won MAC Freshman of the Year, alongside names such as Ben Curtis, head coach Jon Mills, Mackenzie Hughes, and MAC Golfer of the Year Jordan Gilkison.
Head coach Jon Mills earns MAC coach of the year honors for the second time in six seasons as the head coach of Kent State, also claiming the honor in 2021. He led the Golden Flashes to his third MAC Championship as a head coach this week, also leading the team to back-to-back conference titles in 2021 and 2022. This season under Mills, the Flashes posted six top-five and four top-three team finishes, earning team wins at the Flyer Invitational in October and the MAC Championship this week.
