
Flashes Fall to Eagles in Extra Innings

YPSILANTI- The Kent State Golden Flashes baseball team fell to the Eastern Michigan Eagles 12-11 in 12 innings Thursday evening.
Jacob Bean got the start on the mound for the Flashes going 5.1 innings allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out four Eagles.
Sawyer Solitaira opened the scoring with an opposite field home run in top of the second. Eastern Michigan would respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning.
Kent State would then strike for a run in the fourth on a Jake Casey home run, a Matthews sacrifice fly in the fifth, and a Brody Williams RBI single in the sixth.
The Eagles would then score one in the sixth and four in the bottom of the seventh to jump out to a 6-4 lead.
Hunter Klotz would cut into the lead with an RBI double in the top of the eighth. But the Eagles would answer back once again with a run in the bottom half.
The Flashes would force extra innings thanks to a clutch two out two-run home run off the bat of Casey, his second of the game and seventeenth of the season.
After a quiet tenth and eleventh inning all the fireworks would come in the twelfth. Kent State would score four in the top half of the inning thanks to a Solitaira RBI single, Klotz sacrifice fly, and the Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe would bring in a run on a hustle double and then steal third base and come in to score on a throwing error.
The Eagles would once again answer the Flashes with five runs in the bottom of the inning capped off by a two-run walk off home run.
On Deck for the Flashes
Kent State and Eastern Michigan will meet for game two of the three-game series on Friday. First pitch is currently slated for 2 p.m.
