
Kent State Student-Athletes Post Record-Setting Semester in the Classroom Again

KENT, Ohio –– Kent State Athletics had another record-setting semester as the student-athletes recorded the highest term grade-point average (GPA) in department history with an impressive 3.396 mark during the Spring 2025 semester. The Golden Flashes' cumulative 3.399 GPA is the highest on record. Additionally, multiple teams set program records and achieved remarkable academic milestones.
Across all Kent State athletic programs, 201 student-athletes were named to the Dean's List, while 38 achieved the prestigious President's List distinction.
"Our student-athletes continue to show extraordinary dedication to their academic pursuits," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Randale L. Richmond. "These outstanding results reflect the values we prioritize in our athletic department and the tremendous work of our academic support staff and coaches."
Academic Highlights
- Baseball demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, with 65% of team members earning a 3.0 or higher GPA and 14 student-athletes named to the Dean's List.
- Field Hockey achieved its highest semester GPA in program history (3.647) and recorded the second-highest cumulative GPA in program history (3.604), with 12 student-athletes named to the Dean's List.
- Football saw 24 student-athletes named to the Dean's List, achieving the highest semester and cumulative GPA in program history (3.183 and 3.143, respectively).
- Gymnastics demonstrated remarkable academic consistency with 100% of the team above a 3.0 semester GPA and 69% of team members recognized on either the President's or Dean's List.
- Lacrosse posted the highest term GPA in program history with a remarkable 3.715, with 100% of the team achieving above a 3.0 semester GPA and 87% above a 3.4 term GPA. The team placed 27 student-athletes on the Dean's List and five on the President's List.
- Men's Basketball achieved the highest cumulative GPA in program history (3.065) and recorded the second-highest Spring Term GPA in program history (2.980).
- Men's Cross Country achieved the highest spring term and cumulative GPA in program history (3.639 and 3.384), with seven student-athletes named to the Dean's List.
- Men's Track & Field recorded the highest term and cumulative GPA in program history (3.377 and 3.314), with an impressive 25 student-athletes named to the Dean's List.
- Soccer led the way with eleven perfect 4.0 semester GPAs, with 74% of the team earning a 3.4 or higher semester GPA. The team placed 18 students on either the President's List or Dean's List, with seven earning President's List honors.
- Softball excelled with 76% of the team earning a 3.4 or higher semester GPA, and 70% of team members recognized on either the President's List or Dean's List.
- Volleyball posted outstanding results with 93% of the team above a 3.0 term GPA and 86% of team members earning Dean's or President's List recognition.
- Women's Basketball posted the highest semester GPA in program history at 3.833 (highest in the department), with eight student-athletes making the Dean's List and two earning President's List honors.
- Women's Cross Country excelled with 50% of the team earning perfect 4.0 GPAs, with three student-athletes on the President's List and two on the Dean's List.
- Women's Track & Field maintained academic excellence for the 6th consecutive semester with a 3.5 or higher GPA (3.548), placing 16 student-athletes on the Dean's List and six on the President's List.
- Wrestling posted the highest spring semester GPA (3.130) in program history.
