Ithaca, New York- The Kent State Soccer team started out their five-game road trip with a 90-minute battle with the Cornell Big Red that ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Golden Flashes came out of the gate aggressively on offense as junior forward Josie Morgan took the ball herself down the left side of the field, finding the soft spot in the middle of Cornell back-like to get a clean shot off right in front of the net that went in to give KSU a 1-0 lead in the 9th-minute. Both defenses settled in for the remainder of the half as the Blue and Gold took the lead into the halftime break.

Cornell knocked in the equalizer in the 62-minute as Kent State attempted to clear the ball out of their end. A pass was deflected by Brooke Brown right in front of the goal. She was able to kick it home to bring the score to one a piece.

The two defenses were locked in a battle for the remainder of the contest while KSU came close on a few opportunities late, including one from freshman midfielder Maya Justice who had the best of them all. She cruised by the Cornell defense and missed the mark on a shot by just a few inches, but ultimately the teams remained tied as the buzzer sounded.

The Golden Flashes were outshot by the Big Red in the contest by a count of 17-8, while Cornell also led in the Corner Kick department 8-4. Junior goalkeeper Leah Shaffer once again had an impressive day blocking shots as she finished with nine saves.

The Flashes continue their road-trip as they next head to Kentucky, to take on the University of Louisville Cardinals on Thursday at 7 p.m.
