Louisville, Kentucky- The Kent State Soccer team suffered a tough loss to the hands of Louisville on Thursday night, falling to the Cardinals by a score of 8-0.

Louisville got started with the scoring early as the Cardinals scored four goals in the first 20 minutes of the game, with the first coming from a penalty kick, after a KSU penalty in the box. Louisville scored another later on in the half to make it 5-0 at the halftime break.

In the 41st-minute, sophomore defender Allison Collins was given a red card. The Flashes unfortunately had to play down a player the rest of the contest leading to three more goals in the second half to bring the final deficit to eight.

Northeast Ohio native, sophomore Amelia Swinarski led all scorers with a hat trick, bringing her goal tally to five on the season. She also leads the nation in assists with nine. Liza Sudyam also knocked in two goals for the home team.

The Golden Flashes were outshot by a count of 33-3, while the Cardinals recorded 16 shots on goal. Louisville also led with eight corner kicks to Kent State's three. Despite seeing many shots in the contest, Junior goalkeeper Leah Schaffer was able to record eight saves.

Up Next

The Flashes will next travel to Michigan to take on the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies where they will wrap-up non-conference play. Kickoff is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
