Rochester Hills, Michigan- The Kent State Soccer will play their final non-conference contest of the season on Sunday when they travel to take on the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies at 1 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Golden Flashes were handed their toughest loss of the season on Thursday night on the road at Louisville. The Cardinals scored four goals in the first 20 minutes of the contest to take control of the game early where they would come away with the 8-0 final score over the Blue and Gold.
Northeast Ohio native Amelia Swinarksi scored three goals in the win for the Cardinals, while Liza Sudyam also scored five points off of two goals and an assist. Betsy Huckaby, Mackenzie Geigle, and Karsyn Cherry also found the back of the net for the home team.
Louisville led the contest in shots with 33, while also winning the Corner Kick department by a tally of 8-3. Junior goalkeeper Leah Shaffer finished the night with 8 saves.
Scouting Oakland
The Golden Grizzlies have opened up the 2025 season so far with a 1-4-1 record. Their lone win of the season came in a 4-2 victory against Mercyhurst. Oakland has also already played three MAC schools so far this season with losses to Ohio, Toledo, and Bowling Green.
The Golden Grizzlies are coming off a tough season in 2024, where they finished with a record of 3-14-2. One of those losses included a 4-0 decision against Kent State last August.
Oakland looks to increase offensive production against Kent State this time around before the start of Horizon League play as the Golden Grizzlies have scored just five goals in six games, including four against one team. They have been shut out four times this season so far.
However, they do have a main source of offense that the Blue and Gold will have to key in on. That is junior midfielder Brae Cole, who has accounted for 80% of Oakland's goals this year with four. Sophomore forward Mallory Anderson has scored the other goal so far in 2025.
Series History
Sunday's meeting will be the seventh all-time meeting between the Golden Grizzlies and the Golden Flashes. This is also the fifth consecutive season the two have met up in non-conference play with KSU winning the last two. The Blue and Gold are 4-1-1 all-time against Oakland.
Up Next
After a visit to Oakland University, the Golden Flashes will put non-conference play behind them for their first Mid-American Conference matchup with Bowling Green on the road next Sunday at 1 p.m.
