Kent State’s Mattheus Carroll Named to Prestigious Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

ATLANTA, Ga. – Kent State University defensive lineman Mattheus Carroll has been named to the 2025 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, earning recognition as one of 116 college football players nationwide who exemplify the highest standards of community service, academic excellence, and athletic achievement.
The graduate student from Kent State joins an elite group of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) student-athletes who are being considered for college football's premier award for community service. The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy, now in its 21st year, celebrates players who use their platforms to serve others and create positive change in their communities.
Carroll's nomination reflects his commitment both on and off the field. The defensive lineman has completed 17.5 hours of community service while serving as a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative, demonstrating leadership among his peers. His dedication to academic excellence was recognized with Academic All-MAC honors in 2024.
On the gridiron, Carroll appeared in 10 games during his senior season in 2024, recording 14 tackles, including two tackles for loss and one sack. His performance and character also earned him a selection to attend the prestigious NCAA Career and Sports Forum, further highlighting his well-rounded achievements as a student-athlete.
From the 116 nominees on this year's watch list, eleven student-athletes will be named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and serve as semifinalists for the trophy. The 2025 recipient will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards show on December 12, airing on ESPN, with the formal presentation gala on January 31, 2026, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
