
Flashes in Fourth Through 36 Holes at Boilermaker Classic

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Kent State women's golf team opened the 2025-26 season on Monday with the opening two rounds of the Boilermaker Classic contested at Kampen-Cosler Golf Course. The Golden Flashes sit in fourth through 36 holes at 10-over-par after posting a 4-over-par 292 in round one and a 6-over-par 294 in round two.
With 18 holes remaining on Tuesday, Kent State trails the current leader, Ole Miss, by nine strokes. The Rebels are at 2-over-par through two rounds, followed by Indiana and Xavier at 4-over-par and 7-over-par, respectively. Tournament host Purdue is just behind the Flashes in fifth place after posting a 13-over-par 36-hole score.
Kent State was led individually on Monday by Leon Takagi. The lone senior for the Flashes started the season with a 2-under-par 70 in round one, matching her lowest round of the 2024-25 season in her opening round of the Fall. Takagi proceeded to record a 1-over-par 73 in round two, collecting seven birdies on the day, to conclude Monday as the lone Golden Flash under par at 1-under-par with one round remaining. She is tied for fifth among the 81 golfers competing ahead of Tuesday's final round and is four strokes behind the current individual leader at 5-under-par.
Reigning MAC Golfer of the Year Veronika Kedronova also had an impressive start to the season for Kent State. The Flashes' leader in scoring average during the 2024-25 season posted a 1-over-par 73 in round one on Monday morning, followed by an even-par 72 in the day's second round, matching Takagi with seven birdies across 36 holes. The junior, who recorded eight top ten finishes last season, is tied for ninth at 1-over-par entering round three.
Another member of the Kent State team off to a hot start this week is sophomore Isabella Goyette. The Ohio native began her day with a first-round even-par 72, fueled by four birdies, before firing a 3-over-par 75 to conclude the day. Goyette is tied for 16th at 3-over-par ahead of tomorrow's final 18 holes.
The Flashes' final score countable toward the team total in round one was earned by Petra Babicova, while Aryn Matthews posted the final counting score in round two. Babicova fired a 5-over-par 77 in the day's opening round, while Matthews tallied a 2-over-par 74 to close out the day. The sophomore duo each sit tied for 38th at 9-over-par through two rounds.
The third and final round of the Boilermaker Classic is set to tee off at 9:00 a.m. EST on Tuesday.
