
Flashes Soar in Round Two of Canadian Collegiate

MUSKOKA, Ontario – The Kent State men's golf team marked a 24-stroke improvement in round two of the Canadian Collegiate on Monday as Isaiah Ibit sits just one stroke behind the individual lead. The Golden Flashes fired a tournament low 13-under-par 275 in round two to improve to 2-under-par as a team and climb to a tie for sixth among the 11 squads competing.
Ibit followed up an exceptional 8-under-par 64 on Sunday with another round under par on Monday. The Ontario native carded a 2-under-par 70 to improve to 10-under-par through 36 holes. With five birdies in round two, Ibit's overall tally of 12 birdies is tied for fourth among the 62 golfers competing at the Canadian Collegiate. Entering tomorrow's third and final round in second place, Ibit is just one stroke behind the individual leader at 11-under-par. Kent State's star sophomore is seeking the first win of his collegiate career after narrowly finishing as a runner-up at the 2024 edition of the Canadian Collegiate.
Liam Curtis bounced back on Monday with the best round of his young collegiate career. The local freshman recovered from a 15-over-par 87 on Sunday with the Flashes' lowest round two score on a day where all four counting scores were even-par or better. Curtis carded a 6-under-par 66 for a 21-stroke improvement, featuring six birdies and zero bogeys, to rise to 9-over-par and improve 12 spots on the individual standings to sit tied for 48th.
Nolan Haynes used an impressive performance on Monday to climb into the top 15 of the Canadian Collegiate after 36 holes. The sophomore from Barberton, Ohio, fired a 5-under-par 67 in round two, fueled by five birdies and an eagle at hole no. 10, Kent State's third eagle of the tournament and the Fall. Haynes' 67 matches the lowest round of his collegiate career, a mark he previously set in round three of the Hal Williams Intercollegiate in February. At 4-under-par, Haynes is tied for 12th place and just six strokes back of the individual lead ahead of Tuesday's final round.
Ramiro Acevedo recorded Kent State's final countable score toward the team total on Monday. The Argentine sophomore tallied an even-par 72 after an up-and-down round with five birdies, three bogeys, and a double bogey. Acevedo's 72 is his lowest round of the young season, helping him climb to a tie for 35th place at 3-over-par entering round three on Tuesday.
Notre Dame matched Kent State's tournament-low score of 13-under-par on Monday to maintain the team's lead atop the field of 11 schools competing. The Fighting Irish sit at 25-under-par through 36 holes, five strokes ahead of second-placed Michigan.
The Golden Flashes will wrap up the Canadian Collegiate on Tuesday, with round three tee times from hole no. 1 set to begin at 8:30 a.m. EST.
